Title: Painting the weather, Quantifying the landscape
Painting, model making
2021

From the delimitation of ground weather stations up to the orbiting satellites, the weather infrastructure and its data is representative of the cartesian, scientific appproach we project onto our environment.

By using the unsteady, handcrafted medium of paint, and drawing upon pixelated weather imagery taken from the internet/ Google Earth, the initially accurate and readable data of the weather representations become objectively useless, absurd... Instead, they hint towards a more subjective take of our experience of the weather.

Big painting: a flattened projection of a Doppler radar imagery; Small paintings: reproductions of Google Earth images of the 21 ground weather stations of the Netherlands; Hanging cardboard model of a weather radar
