Title: reduced letters
Typographic research
2021

This project is an experimental research into what makes a letter recognizable, in itself and within a family of letters. I used a serif typeface (more specifically Lynotype Caslon - the choice of this particular font is purely subjective) as a base, and then deconstructed the letters by extracting their specificities (a certain serif ending, a connection between several strokes...).

The outcome of my work consists of different formats : a screenprinted poster, as well as a 13x21cm book made out of loose pages, together folded in half. On each page is a letter of the alphabet, which is positioned in the center of the fold. By folding the page in the middle of the letter, such letter becomes even more fragmented, which challenges even more its readability.
